About Dex Hannon
Dex Hannon is a British multimedia artist whose work encompasses paint, digital art, film, sound, and photography. He is originally from Manchester and now lives and works in Blyth, Northumberland. His art lives in several private collections across the world. He has featured in books and magazines, both in the UK and abroad.
Dex Hannon’s practice is an exploration of transformation and reinvention. At its core is a guiding question: “What else could it be?” A single frame can ignite an entire cascade of creation, a painting, a film or a digital work, each one carrying within it the potential for the next. In this recursive approach, the boundaries between mediums dissolve. Paintings give rise to films, films fracture into digital works, and digital interventions in turn inspire new material explorations. Nothing is ever final. Each work functions simultaneously as culmination and inception, a node within an expanding network of possibility.
Hannon frequently collaborates with alter egos such as Skin Vehicles to expand the dialogue between sound, image and motion. The practice is not constrained by the conventions of medium, chronology or narrative. Instead, it embraces instability, evolution, chance and the unpredictable trajectories of artistic experimentation.
The work invites the viewer into a space where memory, perception and imagination intersect. Scale, materiality and temporal shift become tools for reflection, while the recursive methodology challenges assumptions about originality, finality and authorship. Hannon’s oeuvre is less concerned with depiction than with enactment, offering a lens through which audiences can reconsider not only what art is but what it might catalyse in thought and experience.
Commissions
Future Energy
Future Energy is a 360° immersive film commissioned for the Blyth Festival of Energy, screened in the dedicated projection room at the Energy Central Learning Hub, March 2026.
The film was built from just three photographs of the Hub — two shot at 5am, one in the evening. Through layered animation and motion, the building's geometry is deconstructed and transformed, mirroring Blyth itself: a town not erasing its past but using it to build something new. The soundtrack, composed under the alter ego Skin Vehicles, opens with a found folk song celebrating Blyth's power stations in the 1960s, woven into modern electronic rhythm and techno.
The commission was made possible with support from Walk the Plank, Energy Central Campus, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Port of Blyth, the North East Combined Authority and Northumberland County Council.

Windtwisters Hoarding
Windtwisters - Remember to Evolve is a public artwork installed in Market Place, Blyth, commissioned as part of Blyth Celebrates, a project led by Northumberland County Council and the North East Combined Authority to transform the town into a celebration of arts and culture.
The work originated as an animated film, Blythian Memes, drawing on Blyth's landmarks and the imagery that defines the town's changing identity, from coal port to renewable energy hub. The wind turbine sits at its conceptual centre: a marker of that shift. The colour palette reflects Blyth's evolving character.
Conceptually, the piece mirrors the town's own process: just as Blyth reuses wind to generate new energy, Hannon reworks fragments of earlier films into new work, treating each piece not as an endpoint but as material for what comes next.
