Description
Foundations of Forgotten Buildings emerges from fragmented memories of an old building from Hannon’s childhood. While painting, he sought to reconstruct the architecture from what remained in his mind — the fallen parts, the imagined joins, the details that time had eroded. What began as recollection gradually shifted into abstraction.
Only after completion did Hannon recognise how memory had altered the truth, inventing details that never existed. The work became less about the original structure and more about the way memory rebuilds, distorts and creates new forms of its own.
Painted while listening to Talking Heads’ Once in a Lifetime, the piece reflects on how fragments of the past can evolve into entirely new architectures of thought and emotion.
