With this painting, I wanted to convey the meaning of sentience abstractly. The strangeness of perceiving sensation and how the process is so innate in our everyday actions that are almost ineffable. I began to explore what the concept of sentience meant, which radically became more of a prison than a form of freedom. 

Freeing ourselves from the action of sentience means to be free to be anything, to do anything we want to, without acknowledging the effects on others around us. If we were without sentience, we would be aware of what we can become? There is no apparent sense in sentience, only freedom of judgement. This change is conveyed in There Is No Sense in Sentience, a painting that shifts from the usual style of my block paintings. Indeed, a few blocks of flat colours are replaced by abstract blocks as if they were windows open in different consciousnesses.
